Spring Cleaning

Spring has officially arrived!  The sound of birds, the sweet smell of rain and an increased amount of sun coming through our windows is a clear reminder of how dirty our house is after a long winter hibernation.  Oh wait…we still have snow on the ground!! Soon enough, spring will FINALLY show her face!

Anyone that has ever lived with me knows that I can not start my day without the bed being properly made.  I also have some OCD tendencies of where items should be placed and if it doesn’t have a “spot” then its home is the trash!

If I were a betting woman, I would guess that at least 75% of you reading this post have either a Pinterest board, or a mental list of all the spring cleaning items you would like to accomplish in the upcoming weeks.  Let’s look at how to make the most out of your time and take the motto of “less is more” this spring cleaning season!

This year I am tackling one room at a time!  Instead of going crazy popping all over the house, the goal will be to knockout one room at a time.  That way, in a short period of time, a sense of accomplishment can overcome my creeping stress level.

Knockout Plan 1-2-3!

  1. Garbage bags must be present!  If you have not used an item toss it in a donation bag.  If you are too scared to even smell an item it goes directly in the trash bag!

  2. Start at the top and work your way down (that sounds kind of naughty)!  Simply start at the top of the room and organize everything until you get to the floor and make sure everything is off the floor and in its appropriate location.  The hardest part is staying disciplined and making sure you finish each task to completion.  You are NOT saving yourself any time if you set your work books by a new pile in your bedroom…just walk them to their final destination in your office!

  3. After everything is organized, take a few minutes to do a little extra cleaning.  Everyone has their own cleaning rituals so there is no need to go “Danny Tanner” and get crazy over the cleaning.  Just go one step further than what you normally do.

Here is a photo of my first closet that I tackled.  It may not look like much, but I went through all of our baking items and checked if they were still good.  Then, took everything off the shelves and cleaned them off and everything was put back neatly and ready for spring to finally arrive.  Just one pantry made me feel like I accomplished something and now onto the next closet!…
